MAVUNOLAB unlocked Zanzibar’s seaweed industry by introducing low-cost solar dryers, enhancing the livelihoods of 60 women farmers in Bweleo and Pongwe. The project provided efficient processing facilities that reduced spoilage and improved dried seaweed quality. It also trained 10 young technicians in solar-drying technology, promoting youth engagement and local capacity building. Overall, the solar dryers have improved seaweed quality, reduced processing time, and created better economic opportunities for women farmers.
